"God has given me a new song to sing." (Psalm 43) |
“My God’s not dead, he’s surely alive.” Are the words of a
song to a wonderful movie that came out this year, I can attest to that…
My God is alive. My God
is the same today as He was yesterday as He will be tomorrow. Unlike people - He is unchanging. He is reliable. He is trustworthy. He says it like it is. He is slow to anger. He is compassionate, He is forgiving, He is
ALL knowing. And I am crazy in love with
Him.
There is a song that begins to play when you are a child –
whatever your home situation is, the recording starts before your birth. You are born a blank sheet of paper and
whatever is written upon that page begins your song. You learn the lyrics, you learn the melody
and the tune and it is one that (good or bad) is played over and over again
throughout the course of your life. The
only One who can change that “song” is God.
Sometimes we need to realize that we need God to change our
song… Think about it. What are the
lyrics of your life saying to you? About
you?
Are they ones that you have mistakenly believed throughout your whole
life? Think about it carefully now… What
have you believed? What DO you believe?
What SHOULD you believe?
“As a man thinketh within himself, so he is.” (Proverbs 23:7)
Prodigal, there is a reason why you allowed yourself to go
down that pathway. As you head home,
think about the song that has been
playing over and over again in your life. Maybe it’s time you allow God to change
it. I know that’s the case with me. He’s changing my song. I didn’t realize I’ve been listening to a “subliminal
message” my whole life. But I realize it
now, because God is in the process of “changing my song.”
I find it that in the process of realizing the lyrics to the
song that has been playing over and over again in my life (unknowingly to me,
for I have been blind to it) – that in the midst of a year full of a bunch of
changes since I decided *not* to go down that deceiving pathway anymore but
turn my direction homewards that on my journey back home the Lord would open my
eyes to so many things I had been blind about myself. Things I didn’t see… We are accountable for what we know. I think part of the journey home is discovering WHY you allowed yourself to go
down that pathway in the first place… Not an easy thing to accept or
change. But you see that is the beauty
in knowing God. Once you ask for His
help, He transforms you. I guess it is a
good thing isn’t it? Since He is our
Creator, who knows you better? He knows
the life song that has played since your birth.
Until you come to know Him and ask Him for His help, he won’t change it
for you.
“Father God, I see it now.
I see the lyrics. I see that I
believed them. I see that the words
written upon my life were inaccurate and wrong – and I renounce them. I know that in order for my life to
change, I have to allow You to change it
for me. I am incapable of making the
changes myself. Take off the record that
is playing – change my life song. As you
continue to reform my mind, to heal me, to draw me nearer to you I pray that
you would help me to see and understand and to realize the lyrics I’ve been
listening to all my life have gone against the lyrics you have written to me in
your Word. Give me a new song Father,
and help me to walk in it. In Jesus name
I pray, Amen.”
The year 2014 has been a refining one in my life. Has it been in yours as well? Not only have I gone through many life
changes this year, but the perfume I have worn for over 20 years was
discontinued!!!! It is like God is
trying to make it as clear as possible to me that He is doing a new work in my
life. This is a time of change. And I need to stop fighting against the tide
and allow God to do what He is going to do in my life.
Fighting against Him is useless, Prodigal. You will only have to repeat the lesson until
you get it right if you fight against what God is doing in your life. I don’t want to “be that person.” It would make the journey homeward easier
for you if you open your eyes, open your ears and hear what He is saying to
you. He loves you! He knows you! You can trust Him. As you allow your feet to take you home and
you reflect on your prodigal experience, allow Him to speak to your heart. Remember in the story of the Prodigal, the
father (YOUR FATHER) met His son halfway.
What did they talk about as they journeyed
back home together with His father’s arm possessively around his son’s
shoulders? I’ll bet they talked about
him having a new song…
Listen, that new song is the rejoicing of angels as you have
set your feet on the pathway God always intended you to be on. A new journey is about to begin…
